Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Wangtham Lamaty emerged as the ‘Best Rider’ title during the recently held National Equestrian Championship 2025 in Jalandhar, Punjab.
Lamaty, a resident of Kheti village in Tirap district, is presently serving in Assam Rifles.
“What an incredible performance by Shri Wangtham Lamaty ji of @official_dgar at the National Equestrian Championship-2025! By clinching the ‘Best Rider’ title, you have not only made Kheti village in Tirap district proud but the entire Arunachal Pradesh,” Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu posted on X.

“Heartiest congratulations and the best wishes to you, Mr Wangtham for your future endeavours,” Khandu added.
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein extended his congratulations to Wangtham for the accomplishment.
Mein stated, “His passion for tent pegging and relentless perseverance have brought this distinguished honor to our state, showcasing the exceptional sporting talents we have in Arunachal Pradesh. We’re so proud of you, Wangtham!”
The National Equestrian Championship-2025 (Tent Pegging) at Jalandhar was organised by Punjab Police under the aegis of the Equestrian Federation of India.
The championship featured 15 teams from various state Police Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Army, Navy, and private clubs, competing for the coveted title.
A total of 125 horses and top riders from across the country took part in the event, which concluded on February 23.

The championship saw participation from 15 to 20 international players from different teams.
International jury members, who were appointed by the Equestrian Federation of India, judged the events throughout the competition.
