Arunachal Pradesh: Kipa Mero strikes gold in javelin throw in ‘Khelo India Para Games 2025’

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s athlete Kipa Mero won the gold medal in javelin throw in the ongoing Khelo India Para Games 2025 in New Delhi on Sunday.

Congratulating the athlete for her success, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “She clinched the Gold Medal in the Women’s F-13 Javelin event with an impressive throw of 22.46m—a remarkable achievement that makes us all proud!”

He added, “Your dedication and perseverance inspire us all. Keep soaring higher, Mero!”

Likha Ako, also from Arunachal Pradesh, placed 6th with a throw of 14.96 meters in the same F category.

Gangavva Neelap Harijar from Karnataka and Rajashri Shankar Kasdeka from Maharashtra bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Meanwhile, Lokam Angam (F11) from Arunachal secured the sixth position in women’s shot put with a throw of 3.86 metres.

Mala Cheri (F47) finished 5th in the 200 mtrs race with a time of 37.47 seconds.

The 2nd edition of the Khelo India Para Games, which kick started on March 20, will continue till March 27 across three venues in New Delhi.

The event features six sports disciplines: Para Archery, Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Table Tennis, Para Powerlifting, and Para Shooting.

The event witnessed the participation of approximately 1,200 athletes, 200 technical officials, 150 volunteers, 350 support staff, 300 escorts, and 20 classifiers, representing 36 States and Union Territories across the country.

The Khelo India Para Games 2025 aims to elevate the standard of para-sports in India, providing para-athletes with a national platform to compete at the highest level.
