GUWAHATI: The first National Space Day 2024 will be celebrated across the country tomorrow, commemorating the first anniversary of the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface.
This year’s theme, “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga,” highlights the impact of space exploration on society and technology.
On August 23, 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved an incredibly significant feat in the realm of space and aeronautics with the successful landing of the Vikram Lander on the moon. This mission made India the fourth country to land on the moon and the first to land near the southern polar region.
Celebrating the mission’s success, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proclaimed August 23 as National Space Day to honor this historic event.
The mission’s success not only showcased India’s growing capabilities in space technology but also highlighted the importance of international collaboration in space exploration.
The first National Space Day will be celebrated with a series of events and activities.
A grand two-day event will take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, featuring high-profile sessions, interactive exhibitions, and significant announcements related to India’s space achievements.
The event will include mobile exhibitions, known as “Space on Wheels,” which will travel to various universities and colleges, providing students with an opportunity to learn about ISRO’s activities and India’s space missions.
The event is aimed at inspiring and engaging the younger generation to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and contribute to India’s space endeavors.
One of the key highlights of the celebration is the launch of the “Space Tutors” program, which involves educators and mentors registered with ISRO who will engage students and the public through various outreach activities.
This initiative aims to enhance public understanding of space science and foster greater interest in space exploration.
