New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday, paid heartfelt tribute to the late Assamese icon Zubeen Garg, describing him as a celebrated singer whose music left an indelible mark across the nation.
Modi said Garg’s untimely demise brought grief to Assam even as the state marked the centenary of another cultural legend, Bhupen Hazarika.
“Zubeen Garg was a renowned singer who made his mark across the country. He had a deep connection with Assamese culture. Zubeen Garg will always remain etched in our memories, and his music will continue to captivate generations to come,” the Prime Minister said, before playing some of Garg’s songs during the programme.
The Prime Minister also remembered Bhupen Hazarika, calling his works timeless and global.
In his address, Modi also paid homage to acclaimed Kannada writer and philosopher S. L. Bhyrappa, who passed away recently.
Calling him a great thinker, the Prime Minister noted that his works continue to inspire and guide young minds across India.
He urged the youth to read Bhyrappa’s literary contributions, many of which have been translated into other languages.
