GUWAHATI: Northeast is gearing up for a wet and chilly spell as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issues a weather advisory predicting rainfall across the states this week.
According to IMD forecasts, light to moderate rainfall is expected to blanket various parts of the region from Wednesday to Friday (February 21–23), accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
The weather system is anticipated to bring a mix of rain and snow, with thunderstorms featuring lightning and gusts reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, it said in a post on social media on February 21.
“Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds very likely over Northeast India during 21st to 23rd February,” the post read.
Specifically, Arunachal Pradesh is poised to experience mild to moderate rains on Wednesday and Thursday (February 21–22), with heavy snowfall expected in higher-altitude areas.
Similarly, other states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are also bracing for rainfall over the next few days.
The IMD’s advisory has prompted residents and authorities across Northeast to make necessary preparations to mitigate potential impacts.
With varying intensities of rainfall anticipated in many areas, locals are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take precautionary measures to ensure their safety and well-being during this weather event.
As Northeast anticipates the arrival of rain and snow, communities are reminded to remain vigilant and resilient in the face of changing weather conditions, while authorities stand ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
