Gangtok: The Sikkim Education Department has issued a comprehensive advisory to all government and private schools across the state, urging strict precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, officials announced on Monday.
Heads of educational institutions and hostels have been instructed to closely monitor the health conditions of students, teachers, and staff.
“All schools must prioritize the health and safety of their communities by implementing robust precautionary measures,” an official stated.
The advisory recommends that individuals exhibiting symptoms such as cough, cold, or fever lasting more than two days should seek medical consultation.
In case of a significant rise in COVID-19 cases, school authorities, in coordination with the chief education officer, may temporarily suspend affected classes for up to two days to facilitate proper sanitisation.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the first-term examinations, which commenced on June 12, schools have been directed to isolate symptomatic students by seating them in separate exam rooms.
This measure aims to minimise disruptions while safeguarding the health of others.

“All schools are reminded to strictly adhere to established safety protocols, including sanitization, mask-wearing, and social distancing, to curb the potential spread of the virus,” the advisory emphasised.
As of now, Sikkim has reported 58 active COVID-19 cases, with one additional positive case detected recently, another official confirmed.
The Education Department’s proactive steps underline the importance of vigilance and community cooperation to ensure the health and well-being of students and educators during the ongoing pandemic.
