Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday virtually participated in the third meeting of the high-level task force on tourism in the North Eastern Region, which focused on developing a unified strategy to boost the region’s tourism potential.
The meeting, chaired by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia and attended by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, reviewed ongoing initiatives and discussed new measures to strengthen tourism infrastructure and connectivity across the eight northeastern states.
In a post on Facebook, Tamang said the Ministry of DoNER has included Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Meghalaya as key members of the task force to work collaboratively in identifying opportunities and addressing challenges facing the region’s tourism sector.

“The discussions centred around enhancing infrastructure, promoting sustainable tourism, building local capacity, and showcasing the North East’s cultural and natural diversity to the global audience,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that the committee is preparing a detailed report with actionable recommendations and a strategic roadmap aimed at ensuring the holistic growth of tourism in the region. The final document will be submitted to the Centre soon.
