Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang unveiled two new funding initiatives on Monday—the Special Investigation Fund and the Special Traffic Management Fund—aimed at strengthening the operational efficiency of the state police force.
Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony for 13 newly procured fire tenders, the chief minister emphasised the importance of a proactive and well-equipped police force.
He urged senior officials to take a hands-on approach in field operations, highlighting that efficient law enforcement is key to reducing crime rates.
Expressing confidence in the leadership of newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva, Tamang encouraged the police department to strive for excellence and assured full governmental support in achieving the highest standards of law and order.
The procurement of the fire tenders was made possible through combined funding from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the 15th Finance Commission.

The chief minister called on the fire services wing to further enhance its emergency response capabilities, underscoring the vital role of the police and fire services as the backbone of society.
DGP Sachdeva commended the fire services department for its dedication to handling emergencies and natural disasters, highlighting the significance of the new fire tenders in bolstering disaster response capabilities.
The initiatives reflect Sikkim’s commitment to equipping its police force with the resources necessary to ensure safety, security, and efficient emergency response across the state.
