Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Secretary R Telang on Friday reviewed the progress of the under-construction Sevok–Rangpo railway line and said the project is expected to be completed by the end of next year, according to an official.
Notably, the 45-km railway line between Sevok and Rangpo is being built at an estimated cost of over Rs 10,000 crore.
During a review meeting held at Teesta Lounge, Special Secretary (Transport) M D Bhutia presented a detailed update on the current status of the railway project before the chief secretary.
Telang stressed the importance of close coordination between state government departments and railway authorities to ensure the smooth and timely launch of railway services once the project is completed.
He highlighted security arrangements, integration of transport services, and administrative preparedness as key focus areas ahead of the proposed commencement of operations of the railway project.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Sikkim government, along with representatives from the Northeast Frontier Railway and IRCON.

The Sevok–Rangpo railway project has been under construction for several years and is considered a crucial connectivity initiative for the Himalayan state.
