Imphal: In a significant development within the National Peoples’ Party (NPP), Sheikh Noorul Hassan, the elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kshetrigao, has been appointed as the new leader of the NPP’s legislative party in the Manipur Assembly.
The announcement was made public through an official statement issued on Thursday.
This appointment comes in the wake of the untimely demise of MLA Kayisii, who had been serving as the leader of the NPP legislative party in Manipur.
In light of the loss, NPP president Conrad K. Sangma expressed his condolences and confirmed the decision to appoint Hassan as the new leader to continue the party’s legislative work in the assembly.
Furthermore, in a move to strengthen the party’s structure in the state, the interim president of NPP Manipur, Y Joykumar Singh, has entrusted Sheikh Noorul Hassan with the additional responsibility of working president of NPP Manipur.
Hassan will hold this role temporarily, until further instructions are provided by the party leadership.
The NPP, which currently holds a total of seven seats in the Manipur Assembly, made waves last year when it withdrew its support from the N. Biren Singh-led government.
This shift in support marked a pivotal moment in the political landscape of the state.
