The ruling Nepali Congress has announced that it will engage in discussions with other political parties for the reinstatement of Nepal as a Vedic Sanatan Hindu state.
In an exclusive interview with a national news agency, party leader and Member of Parliament Shankar Bhandari underscored the significance of reverting to a Hindu state as a pivotal step in “rectifying” the trajectory of Nepali politics.
“Our endeavour is to engage in discussions with all existing parties in the federal Parliament. We have received indications that even the Nepal Communist Party shares concerns regarding the rising trend of conversions, recognising its counterproductive nature. It is imperative that we collaborate towards the preservation and promotion of Vedic Sanatan Hinduism,” Bhandari was quoted as saying by the agency.
Bhandari, who leads the “Vedic Sanatan Hindu Rastra establishment” campaign within the Nepali Congress, stressed the need for concerted efforts among political factions to achieve constitutional requirement for a two-thirds majority to effectuate the declaration.
“As per our constitutional provisions, a two-thirds majority is essential for the declaration of a Hindu state. We must rectify the serious error made during the promulgation of the constitution, whether intentional or due to oversight. We are resolute in our determination to initiate a national discourse on this matter and engage in dialogue with political counterparts,” he affirmed.
The campaign, buoyed by the support garnered during the General Meeting or Mahasamiti Baithak of the Nepali Congress, has amassed over one thousand signatures advocating for the reinstatement of Nepal as a Hindu state.
These signatures, collected as part of the campaign, have been formally submitted to party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Confirming the submission of signatures, Lokesh Dhakal, coordinator of the campaign, reiterated the commitment of campaign leaders to champion the cause of declaring Nepal a Vedic Sanatan Hindu state.
“We remain steadfast in our dedication to this cause and will continue our efforts to rally support from across the political spectrum,” Dhakal affirmed.
