President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday (July 22) accepted the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar as the Vice President of India.
Her approval has now been sent to the Home Ministry, and a notification on the same will be issued soon.
BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was in the Chair, announced on Tuesday that Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation as Vice President of India has been accepted by the President.
Jagdeep Dhankar resigned from the post of VP on Monday evening by invoking Article 67(a) of the Constitution.
In his resignation letter, Dhankhar cited medical reasons and said he will be stepping down from the post to “prioritise health care.”
“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,” the resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, which was posted on the Vice-President’s official X account, said. He had called on President Murmu in the evening.

The 74-year-old’s surprise announcement came on Monday after he chaired the first day of the Parliament Monsoon Session as Rajya Sabha chairman.
Dhankhar took over as 14th Vice President of India in August 2022 and was expected to serve a five-year term till August 2027.
