New Delhi: A video claiming to show a Pakistani attack on an Indian military colony has been debunked by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), which confirmed the footage is actually from Indonesia and dates back to May 6, 2025—well before the launch of Operation Sindoor.
The misleading video, which gained traction on social media platform X, was widely circulated by unauthenticated accounts and falsely presented as evidence of cross-border strikes.
The PIB Fact Check unit, in an official post, clarified, “An old video is being shared to show a Pakistani attack on an Indian military colony. This video is from Indonesia, dated 6th May 2025, and was recorded before #OperationSindoor was even launched.”
The clarification comes amid heightened tensions following India’s military action targeting terror camps across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Since the start of ‘Operation Sindoor’, several videos and claims have surfaced online attempting to misrepresent the situation.
PIB’s fact-checking team has been actively flagging and refuting such disinformation to prevent public confusion and panic.
Officials have repeatedly warned that the spread of fake or unrelated content, especially during sensitive national security operations, poses risks to public trust and national morale.
The government has urged citizens to remain cautious and verify information before sharing it on digital platforms.
“In times of heightened national security, misinformation can lead to unnecessary panic and confusion. Always rely on official sources for updates,” a PIB spokesperson stated.
Authorities have also reminded users that knowingly or unknowingly sharing false information may result in legal consequences under India’s cyber laws.
