Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday nominated 10 prominent figures from diverse fields, including Olympic silver medallist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, to strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food.
Among those nominated are Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, businessman Anand Mahindra, actor Mohanlal, Bhojpuri singer-actor Nirahua, shooter Manu Bhaker, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, singer Shreya Ghoshal, actor R Madhavan and philanthropist Sudha Murthy.
Weightlifter Chanu stressed that small lifestyle changes can make a significant difference in combating the “major health concern”.
“Elated to be nominated by PM @narendramodi_in ji to spread awareness in the fight against obesity. Making small changes to our daily lives can result in a huge transformation all over the country and help us move towards achieving our dream of making a fit India,” Chanu posted on X.

His announcement came a day after he urged people to take proactive measures to address the growing health concern.

PM Modi, in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday urged people to use less oil in food and also pass on the challenge of reducing oil intake by 10 percent to 10 others.
The PM’s post on X read, “As mentioned in yesterday’s #MannKiBaat, I would like to nominate the following people to help strengthen the fight against obesity and spread awareness on reducing edible oil consumption in food. I also request them to nominate 10 people each so that our movement gets bigger!”
