New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s Mementos e-Auction 2025 is putting the spotlight on the rich cultural heritage of India’s Northeast, with a wide array of gifts from the region up for bidding.
The online auction, running at pmmementos.gov.in until October 2, features 1,300 items presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from across the country, officials said on Thursday.
Representing Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, these gifts reflect the region’s craftsmanship, traditions, and cultural pride.
Beyond offering collectors a chance to own national treasures, the auction also supports the ‘Namami Gange’ Project, with proceeds funding the conservation of the holy river.
Among the highlights from Nagaland is the ‘Mithun’, a finely polished wooden sculpture of a bull, symbolising wealth and social prestige among the Naga people, along with a handwoven Naga shawl.
Meghalaya’s contribution includes a model ship crafted from bamboo and cane, showcasing the state’s ingenuity in turning everyday materials into intricate, collectible art.
Assam’s offerings include a Muga Silk Angavastra, a Garuda Wall Mask, and a traditional Japi, the iconic bamboo and palm-leaf umbrella decorated with vibrant patterns, representing honour and protection.
The golden-hued angavastra celebrates Assam’s unique silk tradition, while the Garuda mask hails from Majuli, the cultural heart of the state.

Officials said the auction offers a unique opportunity to celebrate India’s Northeast heritage while contributing to a national cause, blending art, culture, and social responsibility.
