GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has collected Rs 66.27 crore by cracking down on ticketless and irregular ticket passengers during the period from April 2023 to March 2024.
According to the latest update, a total of 7,93,170 cases of ticketless and irregular ticket passengers were detected.
The NFR disclosed that the revenue collected from ticketless travellers during the current fiscal year, from April 1 to May 19, has already exceeded Rs 10.65 crore.
This marks a 5.23% increase in revenue collected from offenders compared to the previous fiscal year (2022-2023), which saw a collection of Rs 62.98 crore from 7,78,808 cases.
Stressing on their commitment to ensuring hassle-free and comfortable travel for genuine passengers, the NFR stated that regular intensive ticket checking drives are conducted to deter ticketless and irregular travel.
Travelling without a proper ticket or beyond authorised distance may result in the imposition of excess charges and fares, with offenders facing prosecution under relevant sections of The Railways Act, 1989.
The NFR urged the general public to travel with proper and valid tickets and carry valid identity cards to avoid inconvenience.
To facilitate ticket purchases, passengers can now utilise the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application on their smartphones, allowing them to purchase unreserved tickets.
The UTS application is available for download on both Android and Apple app stores.
