The Media Foundation is delighted to announce the commencement of nominations for the annual Chameli Devi Jain Award, honouring an “Outstanding Woman Media Person of the Year”.
Established in memory of the renowned freedom fighter, Chameli Devi Jain, the award aims to recognise and celebrate women in media who have significantly contributed to society through their work.
Over the years, the Chameli Devi Jain Award has become synonymous with excellence in Indian journalism, acknowledging some of the most distinguished names in the field.
The award is open to women journalists across various media platforms, including print, digital, and broadcast media, as well as current affairs documentary filmmakers, news photographers, cartoonists, and newspaper designers.
Self-nominated entries are also welcomed.
The criteria for selection encompass analytical skill, social concern, originality, insight, style, courage, and compassion.
In an effort to promote inclusivity, preference will be given to small-town and rural Indian language journalists, along with those who have not been previously awarded.
An independent panel of jurists will evaluate the entries, with their decision being deemed final.
Entries can be submitted in English, Hindi, or any other Indian language.
For entries in regional languages, a translation into English must be provided, although the original work will be assessed by a juror proficient in that specific language.
Nominations should include five samples of work undertaken between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023, submitted in the form of links or PDFs.
Additionally, the nominee’s bio-data with contact details and a brief note justifying the candidate’s exceptional merit for recognition should be included.
All entries must be emailed to themediafoundation2023@gmail.com, and the deadline for submissions is February 5.
This prestigious award not only acknowledges the outstanding contributions of women in media but also serves as an encouragement for continued excellence in the field.
