With an aim to reduce congestion at toll plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced an “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative.
Designed to enhance the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system’s efficiency, this move aims to facilitate seamless movement for commuters at toll booths.
The “One Vehicle, One FASTag” policy discourages the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a single vehicle.
NHAI is actively encouraging FASTag users to adhere to the “Know Your Customer” (KYC) guidelines outlined by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
To enforce compliance, FASTags lacking complete KYC details will face deactivation or blacklisting by banks post-January 31.
Users are advised to promptly complete the KYC process for their latest FASTag and discard any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.
Following the given date, only the most recent FASTag will remain active.
Assistance for this process can be sought at nearby toll plazas or through the toll-free customer service channels provided by their respective banks.
This initiative comes in response to concerns about the issuance of multiple FASTags for a single vehicle and the distribution of FASTags without fulfilling KYC requirements, a violation of the RBI’s directives.
Additionally, instances of FASTags not being affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen, causing avoidable delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other National Highway users, prompted this strategic move.
With an impressive penetration rate of approximately 98% and boasting over 80 million users, FASTag has revolutionised the ETC system in India.
The “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative is poised to optimise toll operations and ensure smoother journeys for users of the National Highways.
