The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced the beginning of a series of projects aimed at boosting connectivity and economic development across the region.
According to Sabyasachi De, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway, construction activities have commenced on multiple fronts, including the Portal 1 of Tunnel number 7, in Tsiepama village of Dimapur district, Nagaland.
Once complete, the tunnel, stretching an impressive 6,610 meters, will become the longest on the entire Dimapur-Kohima rail line project.
A precisely crafted 12-km approach road has been laid to facilitate access to Portal 1 of Tunnel no. 7 in Tsiepama, he told the press on Monday.
Highlighting the expansive scope of the project, De outlined the establishment of eight new stations along the route – Dhansiri, Dhansiripar, Shokhuvi, Molvom, Pherima, Piphema, Menguzuma, and Zubza.
The project will improve transportation in Nagaland, making it easier to move important goods like food, fuel, vehicles, and building materials.
The ambitious Dimapur-Kohima new rail project encompasses an array of components, including 27 major bridges, 148 minor bridges, five Road Over Bridges, 15 Road Under Bridges, and an impressive 21 tunnels spanning a collective length of 31 km.
Simultaneously, the construction of an 82.5-km railway line project, stretching from Dhansiri station in Assam to Zubza in Kohima, represents another crucial initiative undertaken by the NFR.
With an anticipated cost of Rs 6,663 crore, this project is a key component in enhancing regional connectivity and fostering economic growth.
Already, the commissioning of a 16.5-km section from Dhansiri to Shokhuvi in October 2021 has laid the groundwork for further expansion.
He also informed that passenger train services have been introduced, connecting Shokhuvi to Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and Mendipathar in Meghalaya.
The impact of these projects extends beyond mere infrastructure development, promising to empower local communities and catalyse economic prosperity, he added.
