New Delhi: In a step toward revamping the school curriculum to reflect India’s growing strategic and scientific prowess, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is preparing to roll out new educational modules spotlighting Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s historic space mission and India’s swift military response dubbed Operation Sindoor.

The initiative, currently under development, is aimed at students from Classes 3 to 12 and seeks to weave contemporary examples of national strength into the academic framework.

According to sources in the Ministry of Education, the modules will be ready for integration into the curriculum once finalized.

Designed in two tiers — one for Classes 3 to 8 and another for Classes 9 to 12 — the modules will cover themes such as defence strategy, diplomacy, space exploration, and sustainability, each extending over eight to ten pages.

A senior official involved in the curriculum revamp said the inclusion of these real-world events would help students better understand India’s evolving capabilities.

“We want young learners to grasp the significance of coordinated action during national crises and the contributions made by various branches of government,” the official said.

While specific details of Operation Sindoor remain under wraps due to its sensitive nature, the case study will reportedly serve to demonstrate strategic decision-making, inter-agency collaboration, and India’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.

In parallel, students will be introduced to Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s journey — a landmark achievement that saw him become the first Indian astronaut to reach the International Space Station as part of the Axiom Mission 4.

His feat will be presented as a symbol of India’s rising stature in global space exploration, alongside references to pioneering missions like Chandrayaan and Aditya L1.

To foster a broader understanding of national challenges and global responsibilities, the modules will also touch upon environmental stewardship through Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), a government initiative promoting sustainable living practices.

Additionally, the curriculum will include a historical perspective with a unit dedicated to the Partition of India, aiming to build empathy and an appreciation of the country’s resilient past.

Although a launch date is yet to be announced, the updated modules are expected to be introduced in classrooms soon after final approval.

The move aligns with NCERT’s broader mission to modernise educational content, making it more relevant, engaging, and rooted in India’s national identity.
