The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the much-awaited dates for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 at 3 pm on Saturday.
Emerging reports suggest that the announcement closely followed a significant 45-minute session convened by recently appointed commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Gyanesh and Sandhu, is scheduled to convene a press conference at 3 pm to formally unveil the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
In a social media announcement, the ECI wrote, “Press Conference by Election Commission to announce the schedule for GeneralElections2024 & some State Assemblies will be held at 3 pm tomorrow ie Saturday, 16th March. It will be live streamed on social media platforms of the ECI.”
Reports suggest that the commission would have made the announcement of the 18th Lok Sabha election schedule today if not for the sudden resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goel.
Nevertheless, with the appointment of Gyanesh and Sandhu on Thursday, the path is now clear for the commission to proceed with unveiling the schedule, with the newly appointed commissioners assuming their duties on Friday.
Speculations hint at the Lok Sabha elections potentially unfolding in 7 to 8 phases, with the Model Code of Conduct looming into effect upon the announcement of election dates.
Furthermore, there are anticipations that the Election Commission might concurrently conduct assembly elections for four states – Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim – alongside the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, imparting added significance to the electoral panorama.
