KTR calls for probe into Miss England’s allegations at Miss World pageant

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao has called for a thorough investigation into serious allegations made by Miss England, Milla Magee, who recently withdrew from the ongoing Miss World 2025 pageant in Hyderabad.

Citing personal and ethical concerns, Magee exited the competition and returned to the UK.

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the former Telangana minister condemned what he described as “victim gaslighting” and expressed his support for Magee’s decision to speak out.

“It takes immense courage to stand up against misogynistic attitudes, especially on international platforms like Miss World,” Rama Rao wrote.

“Milla Magee, you are a very strong woman, and I am truly sorry you had to experience this in our state of Telangana. This does not reflect our true culture. Telangana has a rich legacy of honouring women—some of our greatest leaders include Rani Rudrama and Chityala Ailamma. We revere and respect women and provide equal opportunities for their growth.”

He added, “As a father of a daughter, I strongly condemn any form of victim-blaming. I urge the concerned authorities to conduct a comprehensive and impartial probe into the allegations made by Miss England.”

Milla Magee, who abruptly exited the international pageant, later told British tabloid The Sun that the environment at the Miss World event did not align with her ideals of “beauty with a purpose.”

According to Magee, contestants were expected to be in full makeup and ball gowns throughout the day—even during meals.

She further claimed that a breaking point came when participants were allegedly asked to socialise with middle-aged men as a token of gratitude for their financial support of the event.

However, the Miss World Organisation offered a different account. Julia Morley, Chair and CEO of the organisation, stated that Magee left the competition due to a family emergency involving her mother’s health.

“We responded with compassion and immediately arranged her return to England, prioritising her and her family’s well-being,” Morley said.

“Unfortunately, some UK media outlets have published false and defamatory statements, reportedly made by Milla Magee, regarding her experience in India. These claims are completely unfounded and do not reflect the reality of her time with us.”

The controversy has stirred debate over the pageant’s culture and its treatment of participants, drawing attention from both Indian and international media.

With conflicting narratives emerging, calls for transparency and accountability are growing louder.
