New Delhi: The Indian Army has unveiled its latest integrated formation, the ‘Rudra Brigade’, aimed at enhancing operational readiness for future battlefields, the Northern Command announced on Saturday.
The move follows Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi’s announcement nearly two months ago.
Described as a “unique blend of synergised combat application and seamless inter-arm integration,” the Rudra Brigade combines infantry, mechanised infantry, armoured units, artillery, Special Forces, and unmanned aerial systems into a single, cohesive formation.
According to the Northern Command, the brigade is designed to tackle evolving technologies and dynamic threats while maintaining agility, mission focus, and a strong defensive posture.
General Dwivedi first announced the brigade during the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, 2025.
He noted that the new formation would be equipped for both combat and logistical support tasks, marking a significant shift in India’s military doctrine.
Defence experts view the Rudra Brigade as part of India’s broader efforts in modernisation and integrated theatre planning, blending conventional forces with advanced technologies such as unmanned systems.

The inclusion of Special Forces is expected to further enhance the brigade’s operational versatility in high-intensity conflict scenarios.
The establishment of the Rudra Brigade underscores the Indian Army’s focus on joint operations, rapid response, and preparedness for future wars, while also serving as a strategic signal of deterrence along India’s frontiers.
A short video released by the Army showcases the capabilities of the new formation and emphasizes India’s commitment to maintaining a future-ready, technologically adept force.
