GANGTOK: In a commendable display of resolve and engineering prowess, Army engineers of Trishakti Corps have successfully erected a crucial 70-foot Bailey Bridge on the Dikchu-Sanklang road axis in Sikkim.
The endeavour comes in response to the devastating floods that severed essential road links across North Sikkim, disrupting connectivity to several remote areas.
Facing relentless rains and formidable technical challenges, the Army engineers swiftly undertook the construction at Dett Khola, beginning their efforts on June 23 and achieving completion within an impressive 72-hour timeframe.
The newly established bridge now serves as a lifeline, facilitating vehicular traffic from Dikchu to Sanklang and onward to Chungthang, thereby reinstating vital transportation routes.
This strategic infrastructure is pivotal in delivering crucial aid and services, including essential medical assistance, to the affected residents of Mangan district, underscoring its significance in the ongoing relief efforts post-flood.
Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, State Forest Minister and Secretary of Disaster Management, personally inspected the site on Thursday, expressing his admiration for the Indian Army’s rapid response and completion of the bridge.
Lepcha’s visit highlighted the bridge’s role in restoring normalcy and enabling expedited relief operations across the flood-affected regions.
The swift construction of the Bailey Bridge stands as a proof to the collaborative efforts of the Army and local administration in swiftly restoring connectivity and supporting the communities impacted by the recent natural calamity in Sikkim.
