Amidst a backdrop of mutual cooperation and strategic partnership, the joint military exercise Maitree 2024 between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army is currently underway at Fort Vachiraprakan in Thailand’s Tak Province.

The exercise aims to enhance joint capabilities in executing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in both jungle and urban environments, in alignment with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

Since its commencement on July 1, troops from both contingents have been actively involved in rigorous training sessions.

The exercise emphasises the exchange of best practices, enabling soldiers from India and Thailand to share and integrate each other’s expertise seamlessly.

At the forefront of the training agenda are physical fitness and combat readiness. Joint activities encompass a spectrum of engagements including martial arts, games, and specialised physical training sessions.

In a cultural exchange gesture, the Indian Army contingent conducted Yoga sessions for their Thai counterparts, reinforcing bonds beyond military cooperation.

Key joint training activities conducted so far include weapon proficiency drills, rappelling exercises, jungle survival techniques, navigation training, communication drills, combat first aid simulations, and casualty evacuation exercises.

These activities aim to enhance interoperability and foster mutual understanding between the two armies, crucial in joint operational scenarios.

The ongoing exercise has witnessed enthusiastic participation and a growing camaraderie among Indian and Thai troops.

It not only bolsters the operational readiness of both armies but also strengthens the longstanding friendship between the armed forces of India and Thailand.

Exercise Maitree 2024 is scheduled to continue until July 15, featuring additional training activities aimed at further enhancing operational synergy between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army.

The exercise underscores the commitment of both nations to collaborate closely in addressing regional security challenges and promoting peace in the region.
