GUWAHATI: The Northeast is set to experience a wet spell as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting significant rainfall across the states till June 18.
According to the IMD, widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected over the Northeast, with particularly heavy spells anticipated in western Assam and adjoining Meghalaya.
The advisory highlights a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its neighbouring regions, along with another cyclonic circulation over northern Bangladesh and nearby areas in the lower tropospheric levels.
Additionally, a trough extends from central Bihar to Nagaland, and another north-south trough runs roughly along longitude 86°E to the north of latitude 22°N in the lower tropospheric levels.
Strong south-westerly and southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal are also affecting the northeastern states at these levels.
As a result, the IMD forecasts widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next five days.
The advisory has prompted residents and authorities across the Northeast to make necessary preparations to mitigate potential impacts.
With varying intensities of rainfall anticipated in many areas, locals are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take precautionary measures to ensure their safety and well-being during this weather event.
