Agartala: Tripura Police on Thursday arrested four people for their alleged involvement in a clash between CPI (M) and BJP supporters.
One person was killed and 30 people were injured in a clash between the supporters of the ruling BJP and Opposition CPI (M) on Wednesday at Charilam in Sepahijala district.
Sources said the tiny town of Charilam had turned into a battleground on Wednesday when clashes erupted between CPI (M) and BJP supporters. One of the CPI (M) supporters, 75-year-old Sahid Miah was killed.
The injured persons were admitted at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala.
The brawl between CPI (M) and BJP supporters started on Wednesday afternoon when a group of CPI (M) supporters tried to reopen a local party office.
The local party office of the CPI (M) was burnt down in 2018, soon after the BJP-led government came to power.
Once a CPI (M) stronghold, Charilam in Sepahijala district of Tripura is now the home turf of Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma.
Sources said all the four people arrested by Tripura Police for the political violence was from in and around Charilam.
