Agartala: Former Tripura minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia on Wednesday joined the TIPRA Motha with the promise to work for the welfare of the tribal population of the state.
Jamatia is the former minister of Tribal Welfare and Forest in Tripura in Biplab Kumar Deb’s ministry and he represented the Asharambari constituency as an IPFT member.
Jamatia joined the TIPRA Motha in less than 24 hours of resigning as an IPFT MLA. Several other IPFT leaders and supporters joined the party.
He alleged that the BJP-IPFT government in Tripura did not allow him to work for the people of the state.
Jamatia said he tried to work for the people of Tripura. “But, I could not work for the people because the BJP did not allow me to work for the people – both tribal and non-tribal,” he said.
The former minister said he decided to join TIPRA Motha after witnessing massive support of the tribal population.
Led by the scion of Tripura royal family, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, Tipra Motha is fighting for a “Greater Tipraland”.
