GUWAHATI: The Emerging North East Eco Forum (ENEEF), with its ambitious objective to transform the Northeast into a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable economic powerhouse, has embarked on its initiative of promoting the region.
ENEEF’s founders, Satyajit Aribam and Vickram Maitei, met key business leaders in Kuala Lumpur during the visit to explore joint research and development (R&D) opportunities in areas, including social sciences, applied sciences, sports science, and food science.
The focus of the visit was to strengthen academic and research connections between Northeast India and leading Malaysian business houses and institutions, fostering innovation and knowledge exchange across critical sectors.
ENEEF secured commitments from institutions like Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management And Technology (TARUMT) to collaborate on cross-cultural research in areas like sociology, anthropology, and development studies.
This collaboration aims to explore the unique social fabric of northeast India and identify sustainable development models for its diverse population.
ENEEF will be exploring traditional ecological practices in both Malaysia and northeast through joint research projects. This will document and analyze indigenous knowledge systems, promoting environmental sustainability.
The visit also provided a platform for joint R&D programs in biotechnology, environmental science, and renewable energy. Experts from both nations aim to address environmental challenges like biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change through shared expertise and resources.
A notable outcome of the visit was a new partnership for sports science research. This collaboration will focus on joint training programs, research on sports injuries, and the promotion of physical fitness, especially among the youth of the Northeast region.
Recognizing the importance of food security and sustainable agriculture, ENEEF established a collaboration on food science and technology with Malaysia.
The focus will be on food safety, post-harvest technology, innovations in food preservation, and supporting small-scale farmers through improved food processing techniques.
Both regions will work together on projects related to indigenous crops and traditional food systems, contributing to food security and rural livelihoods.
The visit marks the beginning of a dynamic partnership between Northeast and Malaysia. ENEEF is committed to translating research initiatives into practical solutions that benefit communities in both regions.
