In tune with Congress’ “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, an umbrella body of civil society groups, Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, has called upon Indian citizens to embarked on a month-long campaign, named “Jana Gana Mana Abhiyaan”, for bational harmony.
Featuring a myriad of online and offline events, the campaign running from January 3 to 30, is strategically planned to coincide with key historical and cultural events, including the birth anniversaries of iconic figures such as Swami Vivekananda, Savitribai Phule, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Mahatma Gandhi, and others.
Yogendra Yadav and Vijay Mahajan, convenors of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, along with Kavitha Kuruganti and Kamayani Swami, addressed the press on Tuesday, marking the launch of the Abhiyaan.
The campaign, anchored in the belief that organised communal frenzy should not overshadow India’s civilizational heritage of co-living, the Abhiyan strives to reconnect a silent majority desiring peaceful coexistence.
The initiative aims to revitalise citizens who take pride in India’s rich, diverse cultural heritage and foster a society rooted in constitutional values.
BJA, a civil society platform spanning numerous people’s organisations across 15 states in India, seeks to safeguard the country’s social fabric.
The month-long initiative includes a spectrum of activities such as videos, posters, challenges, and both online and face-to-face local events.
“The country is witnessing a frenzy of organized communalism which has got nothing to do with maryaada or aastha or dharma but is a brazen attempt to polarise voters on religious lines in the run-up to the critical 2024 national elections,” remarked BJA in a statement.
