SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) have committed to jointly fight against insurgent activities and various trans-border crimes to foster peace and tranquillity along the international border.
The decision emerged from the four-day Inspectors General BSF – Region Commanders BGB level Border Coordination Conference, which concluded in Shillong on Thursday.
The BSF delegation was led by IG Tripura Frontier Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, while Md Shazedur Rahman, Additional Director General and Region Commander, Chattogram, headed the 13-member Bangladesh delegation.
Both border guarding forces also signed the Joint Record of Discussion (JRD) after the meeting.
Das, while highlighting the sincere commitment of both forces to strengthen their existing cordial relations, said that jointly they’ll develop viable solutions to various bilateral issues.
“The primary objectives of this conference are to strengthen existing mechanisms for border management, discuss issues of mutual concern, and address them at various levels, exploring new avenues for collaboration,” said Das.
Highlighting the significance of confidence building measures, Das noted that the BSF and BGB have been enhancing their friendly relationship through regular participation in Border Coordination Conferences.
He added, “Recognising the importance of fostering goodwill and mutual understanding, we have discussed initiatives to promote cultural and sports exchanges between the BSF and BGB.”
Das asserted that these activities will build camaraderie and enhance mutual respect and trust between the forces.
Over the past few years, these forces have not only solidified their bond of friendship but also developed new dimensions in mutual trust and cooperation, resolving bilateral border issues through meaningful dialogues at various command levels.
“Our shared vision of a peaceful and secure border can only be realised through continuous dialogue and cooperation. I look forward to further strengthening our partnership in the coming months and years,” Das added.
