Patna: Nitish Kumar on Sunday resigned as the chief minister of Bihar, and is likely to return to the BJP-led NDA.
Nitish Kumar’s resignation comes after days of speculation over the JD(U) leader eyeing another political switch to return to an alliance with the BJP.
The Janata Dal (United) chief reached the Raj Bhawan at 11 AM and tendered his resignation. Earlier, he held a quick breakfast meeting with the JD (U) MLAs at his official residence.
After coming out of Raj Bhawan, Nitish Kumar told media personnel that the Governor has accepted his resignation, and theministry has also been dissolved.
With his resignation, Nitish Kumar has officially left the 28-party Opposition bloc INDIA, and made it obvious that he is all set to form a new coalition government with the BJP.
With the change in political dynamics in Bihar, it is obvious that Lalu Yadav’s party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) would again shift to the opposition bench.
Apparently, the BJP and JD(U) have finalized the blueprint of the composition of the new government in Bihar.
Moreover, a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Lok Sabha election is being worked out between the BJP and JD (U).
Meanwhile, all the BJP MLAs in Bihar have already given letters of support to Nitish Kumar, and he would likely to be sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar on Monday.
Sources said BJP President JP Nadda along with few other senior BJP leaders will also reach Patna by special charter flight at 3 pm.
