The Ireland Department of Transport has reappointed Shajedul Chowdhury Rubel, a Bangladesh origin, as a member of its advisory committee.
This marks the second time Rubel has been appointed to this significant role.
Rubel, originally from Netrokona district in Bangladesh, first made history in May 2021 as the first Bangladeshi and the first migrant to be appointed to Ireland’s transport advisory panel.
His initial two-year term ended on May 2, 2023.
In recognition of his valuable contributions, Ireland’s Transport Minister Eamon Ryan reappointed Rubel on May 14, 2024, extending his term until May 2, 2027.
In a letter addressed to Rubel, Minister Ryan praised his significant contributions to the committee and highlighted the committee chairperson Con O’Donohue’s belief that Rubel’s continued membership would greatly benefit the panel.
“I understand that you have made a valuable contribution to the Committee and that the Chairperson, Con O’Donohue, believes that the committee would benefit greatly from your continued membership,” the letter read.
Rubel’s reappointment is a proof of his dedication and the positive impact he has had on Ireland’s transport sector.
His role on the advisory committee involves providing expert advice on various transport-related issues.
Rubel is the son of the late Younis Ali Chowdhury, a school teacher, and Begum Shajeda Chowdhury.
His journey from Netrokona, Bangladesh, to becoming a key advisor in Ireland’s transport sector is an inspiring story of dedication, hard work, and cross-cultural contribution.
As he begins his new term, Rubel, has been living in Limerick, Ireland, for the past 25 years with his family, and continues to represent the diverse and multicultural fabric of Ireland.
