ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly “misbehaving” with Nagaland’s Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak.
Khandu described the incident as “unacceptable” and criticised Gandhi’s actions, stating the need to uphold respect and dignity.
The controversy arose after Konyak, a BJP MP and the first woman to represent Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha, accused Gandhi of shouting at her and coming uncomfortably close during a protest outside the Parliament’s Makar Dwar on December 19.
Konyak stated that the incident left her feeling “extremely uncomfortable.”

Reacting to the incident, Khandu posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Disgraceful! As the first woman Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, Smt @SPhangnon Ji represents dignity and pride for the Northeast. Such behaviour is unacceptable and goes against the ethos of respect.”
The incident sparked widespread criticism from several NDA MPs, who demanded accountability and action against Gandhi for his alleged misconduct.
The episode has further intensified the political tensions within Parliament, with leaders emphasising the importance of maintaining decorum and mutual respect in such settings.
