GUWAHATI: In the lead-up to the upcoming general elections next year, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has declared a new yatra, the “Bharat Nyay Yatra”, set to kick off on January 14 in Imphal, Manipur, and culminate on March 20 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
This extensive journey, covering a distance of 6,200 km, is designed to traverse through 14 states and 85 districts, involving Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
During this yatra, Gandhi aims to connect with diverse segments of the population, specifically targeting youth, women, and the marginalised communities.
Speaking to the press in Delhi, Organisation Secretary KC Venugopal provided details about the yatra.
“Bharat Nyay Yatra will commence from January 14 to March 20, stretching from Manipur to Mumbai. Rahul Gandhi, drawing from his experience in the first Bharat Jodo Yatra, will engage with youth, women, and marginalized communities. The yatra will span 6,200 km and will utilise a bus, with leaders expected to walk specific sections of the route,” he was quoted as saying by the press.
Venugopal also highlighted the democratic decision-making process within the Congress, stating, “On December 21, Congress workers expressed their opinion that Rahul Gandhi should initiate the yatra from East to West. Rahul Gandhi readily agreed to fulfil the wishes of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).”
The Nyay Yatra is scheduled to be flagged off by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and is expected to traverse states currently governed by parties forming part of the INDIA alliance.
This announcement coincides with the escalating campaigning for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, indicating the strategic importance of the yatra in the political landscape.
This upcoming Nyay Yatra follows the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which was launched in Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022.
Led by Gandhi, the earlier yatra concluded on January 30, 2023, in Srinagar, covering an impressive 3,970 km across 12 states and two Union territories in over 130 days.
