North Sikkim/Lakshadweep: The mortal remains of Sepoy Sainudheen PK, who lost his life in the recent landslide at Chatten in North Sikkim, were recovered on June 8, after eight days of intensive search operations led by the Indian Army.

A native of Androth Island in Lakshadweep, Sainudheen’s final journey spanned nearly 2,500 kilometres across the length of the country.

His repatriation was made possible through a coordinated tri-services operation involving the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, with support from local authorities.

Born on December 20, 1991, Sainudheen joined the Indian Army on March 24, 2012.

Over his 13 years of service, he was posted in some of the most demanding operational regions, including the Siachen Glacier.

He was widely respected for his discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty.

Military officials confirmed that Army Aviation helicopters and Indian Air Force transport aircraft, including the C-295, were used to ensure timely and respectful transfer of the body across different stages of the journey.

A ceremonial wreath-laying ceremony with full military honours was conducted at the Bengdubi Military Station on June 8.

Upon arrival in Androth, the Indian Navy presented a Guard of Honour, marking the culmination of the solemn journey with full state and military protocol.

In a statement, his Commanding Officer said, “Sepoy Sainudheen PK embodied the finest values of the Indian Army—integrity, courage, and dedication. He served quietly, but with unmatched resolve. His sacrifice reminds us of the everyday heroism that sustains our freedom.”

The Congress MLA from Lakshadweep and senior naval and administrative officials were also present during the final rites held in his hometown.

The Army described the repatriation not merely as a logistical operation, but as a national tribute.

The seamless coordination between the three armed forces highlighted the spirit of unity and the nation’s unwavering commitment to honouring its fallen heroes.

Sainudheen’s sacrifice has deeply resonated across the country, serving as a stark reminder of the selfless service rendered by armed forces personnel, often far from public view.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
