At least 14 Maoists, including two wanted cadres, were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma and Bijapur districts on Saturday, officials said.

Twelve Maoists, among them Mangtu, a Divisional Committee Member (DVCM), were neutralised during an exchange of fire in Sukma district when security personnel were conducting an anti-Naxalite operation in the southern part of the district, a senior police official said.

In a separate operation in Bijapur, the bodies of two Maoist cadres, including Hunga Madkam, were recovered from the forests near Gaganpalli village under Basaguda area.

Security forces also seized one SLR rifle and one 12-bore firearm from the site, officials said.

The Bijapur encounter occurred around 5 am when a team of the District Reserve Guard, a specialised unit of the state police, launched an operation in the forested southern region of the district.

Intermittent firing was reported when last information came in, and further details were awaited.

Chhattisgarh has witnessed a series of intensified anti-Naxalite operations over the past year.

In 2025, as many as 285 Maoists were killed in separate encounters with security forces across the state, officials said.
