The United States President Donald Trump has launched a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists, accusing the publication of waging a long-standing campaign to damage his reputation.
Filed in the U.S. District Court in Florida, the suit cites several articles and a book authored by two Times reporters in the run-up to the 2024 election.
Trump’s legal team argues that the pieces form “part of a decades-long pattern of intentional and malicious defamation” targeting him.
According to the complaint, the journalists published statements “with knowledge of their falsity, and/or with reckless disregard” for the truth.

The New York Times has yet to issue a response to the case, which surfaced publicly on Tuesday.
Trump announced the lawsuit on his Truth Social platform, accusing the paper of dishonesty and claiming it had become “a virtual mouthpiece for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”
This is not the first time Trump has turned to the courts against media organisations.
In July, he filed a $10 billion defamation suit against The Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch following a report linking him to financier Jeffrey Epstein.
