Pakistan Army’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza today met Bangladesh Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman at the Jamuna State Guest House in Dhaka, signalling the high-level ties between the two countries.
Gen Mirza, the second most powerful person after Field Marshal Asim Munir, landed at Hazrat Shah Jala International Airport late on the night of October 24.
Northeast News was the first report Gen Mirza’s Bangladesh visit which is taking place in the backdrop of a series of visits by Pakistani generals and brigadiers since January 2025.
Gen Mirza’s maiden visit to Bangladesh is being conducted by the Armed Forces Division under Yunus’ office.
The AFD is headed by Principal Staff Officer Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan who was the first to lead a team of Bangladesh Army officers to Pakistan on January 11 this year, five months after Yunus took over as head of the interim regime on August 8, 2024.
Information accessed by Northeast News show that Gen Mirza, recipient of the Nishan-e-Imtiaz military award, was accompanied by his wife Shazia Sahir, Brigadier Muhammad Rashid Khan, Commodore Khan Muhamad Asif and two majors.
After spending the night at Dhaka’s Radisson Blu Hotel, the Pakistan Army officers paid a formal visit to the Pakistan High Commission before their meeting with Yunus and Khalilur Rahman, which took place between 6:45 pm and 7 pm.
The Pakistani visitors were hosted by the Pakistan envoy at the high commission in the evening.

Gen Mirza will be given a joint service guard of honour at Sena Kunjo on October 26.
That day, he will hold a 45-minute meeting with Lt Gen Hassan at the AFD at 4 pm.
This will be followed by meetings with Bangladesh Navy chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan and Air Chief Marshal Hasam Mahmood Khan.
The next day (October 27), Gen Mirza will visit Sylhet cantonment. However, on October 28, he will meet Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-uz-Zaman at 11:30 am before taking an Emirates Airlines flight (No. 587) for Dubai
