The Rights and Risks Analysis Group (RRAG) has raised concerns over continuing racial violence against indigenous communities in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts before the UN Human Rights Council.
Speaking at the Council’s 60th session in Geneva, RRAG Director Suhas Chakma alleged that three indigenous persons were killed by the Bangladesh Army at Guimara village on September 28.
He said relatives of the victims were too intimidated to file complaints.
Recalling earlier incidents, Chakma highlighted that four indigenous villagers were killed, 75 injured, and hundreds of homes torched during violence involving illegal settlers and the army in September 2024.
He criticised the Bangladesh government for not making the inquiry report on the incident public.

Chakma further noted that indigenous communities were excluded from the Constitutional Reforms Commission, which, he said, denied their recognition in law.
He also cited the removal of the word “Adivasi” (indigenous) from school textbooks in January 2025 and the subsequent attack on protesting students in Dhaka by fundamentalist groups.
Calling the developments “systemic discrimination,” Chakma urged the UN Human Rights Council to press Bangladesh to ensure accountability and protection of indigenous peoples.
