New Delhi: India on Saturday dispatched 15 tonnes of relief supplies to Myanmar as part of ‘Operation Brahma’ following a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the country and parts of Thailand.

A C-130J military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force carried the aid to Yangon to provide relief to millions of survivors in the neighbouring country.

“Operation Brahma – India acts as a First Responder to assist the people of Myanmar affected by yesterday’s massive earthquake. Our first tranche of 15 tonnes of relief material, including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, food packets, hygiene kits, generators, and essential medicines has landed in Yangon,” said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson at Ministry of External Affairs.

The relief material includes tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat meals, water purifiers, hygiene kits, solar lamps, generator sets and essential medicines, including Paracetamol, antibiotics, canula, syringes, gloves, cotton bandages, and urine bags.

A series of powerful earthquakes rocked Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand on Friday, leaving a trail of destruction.

As per reports, the death toll from the powerful quake has reached 1,002.

Reports indicate 2,376 people have been injured, while 30 remain missing. The disaster caused widespread destruction, toppling buildings, bridges, and infrastructure across Myanmar and Thailand.
