A few days after key transfers were effected in the higher echelons of the Bangladesh Army, the Tarique Rahman-led BNP government today made another round of sweeping changes at the senior level, moving out Quarter Master General Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman to lead the Dhaka-based National Defence College (NDC).
Lt Gen Faizur Rahman, who had maintained a low profile in his capacity as the QMG head following his brief stint at the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, immediately after the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina regime in August 2024, is among a small circle of generals who belonged to a “camp” other than the one led by Army chief Gen Waker-uz-Zaman.
The outgoing NDC Commandant, Lt Gen Shaheenul Huque, who is due to retire in January 2027, will replace Lt Gen Faizur Rahman.
Besides this key change, five major generals were also moved from their assignments to lesser or insignificant jobs.
These officers include Maj Gen Mohammad Nasim Pervez, Commandant of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), who has been shifted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) where he will remain until he is posted abroad as an ambassador.
Maj Gen Mohammed Hossain Al Morshed, the 19th Infantry Division General Officer Commanding and Area Commander of a key formation at Ghatail in Tangail, will be the new Adjutant General.
He will replace Maj Gen Mohammad Hakimuzzaman who will take over as the MIST Commandant.

Maj Gen Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, the GOC of the 66th Infantry Division based in Rangpur, has been instructed to take charge of the Log Area in Dhaka.
For the past few months, the Bangladesh Army chief was constrained by the presence of pro-US and pro-Pakistani generals in some key positions.
These officers included Principal Staff Officer, Armed Forces Division, Lt Gen S M Kamrul Hassan, who was shipped out to the MOFA where he will “cool his heels” will such time he is given an assignment abroad. Lt Gen Kamrul Hassan is due to retire from service in September 2026.
He was among the principal supporters of the then National Security Adviser (NSA) Khalilur Rahman who was elevated to the position of Foreign Minister in the Tarique Rahman-led cabinet.
Khalilur Rahman was the chief architect of the controversial “humanitarian corridor” to the Rakhine State in Myanmar, which was backed by Lt Gen Kamrul Hassan.
