Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, has criticised the United States over its shifting stance on Russian oil, claiming that Washington is now urging countries — including India — to purchase crude from Russia despite previously pressuring them to stop imports.
In a post on X on Friday, Araghchi said the United States had spent months pressuring India to halt Russian oil purchases.
The U.S. spent months on bullying India into ending oil imports from Russia. After two weeks of war with Iran, White House is now begging the world—incl India—to buy Russian crude.
Europe thought backing illegal war on Iran would win U.S. support against Russia.

However, he claimed that the White House is now encouraging global buyers to resume purchasing Russian crude following recent tensions in the Middle East.
His remarks came weeks after the US reportedly issued a temporary 30-day waiver on March 5 allowing India to continue buying Russian oil, after earlier imposing strict sanctions linked to the conflict in Ukraine.

Araghchi also criticised Europe’s position on the ongoing crisis in West Asia, describing the conflict involving Iran as “illegal” and accusing European countries of supporting the war in hopes of securing US backing against Russia.
He further condemned the current policy of the administration led by Donald Trump regarding Russian crude purchases.
Tensions in the region escalated after the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran starting February 28, following mounting pressure from Washington on Tehran to agree to a new nuclear agreement.
Iran’s retaliatory actions subsequently widened the conflict across parts of the Gulf region.
