Gen Z youths clashed with cadres of the CPN-UML in western Nepal on Wednesday (November 27) during a protest targeting a politburo member of former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s party, police said.
The youths were demonstrating against Mahesh Basnet, who had arrived in Dhangadhi in Kailali district, to attend a programme organised by the CPN-UML’s youth wing.
Police said several Gen Z protesters were injured during the confrontation with cadres of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist).
Tension escalated shortly after Basnet arrived at Dhangadhi airport, where demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Go back Oli’s men” and “Take action against the murderer.”
Police intervened to bring the situation under control.
This incident is the latest in a series of protests targeting CPN-UML leaders. On Tuesday, Gen Z youths held demonstrations in Biratnagar in Morang district, and a similar protest took place in Simara, Bara district, on November 19, where Basnet was scheduled to land.
Authorities imposed a two-day curfew in parts of Bara after protesters surrounded Simara airport in an attempt to block the landing of a Buddha Air flight carrying Basnet. The airline later cancelled the Kathmandu-bound flight, citing security concerns.

Youths have escalated their protests against the Oli-led CPN-UML nationwide, blaming the former prime minister for the deaths of at least 22 people during the September 8 Gen Z demonstrations.
