Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has sparked political speculation in the United States by suggesting the formation of a new political party—possibly named “The America Party”—amid escalating tensions with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The idea began circulating after Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, posted a poll on his social media platform X, asking followers whether the U.S. needed a new political party.
According to Musk, 80% of respondents voted in favour.
“The public has spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80 percent in the middle! And exactly 80 percent of people agree. This is fate,” Musk wrote, fueling online debate about his political ambitions.
Soon after, a user suggested the name “America Party,” to which Musk responded enthusiastically: “The name America Party sounds great.
The party that really represents America!” He later followed up with a simple post that read: “The America Party,” further hinting at the seriousness of the idea.
The posts come at a critical moment in Musk’s evolving relationship with President Trump.
Once viewed as a close ally of the former president, Musk had attended Trump’s inauguration and was reportedly a participant in Cabinet meetings.
He was even appointed to head a symbolic “DOGE Department,” a nod to his public promotion of Dogecoin and alignment with internet-driven political trends.
However, that alliance appears to have broken down. Musk has since resigned from the DOGE Department and become openly critical of Trump’s leadership.

In a pointed message posted on X, Musk wrote, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate… Such ingratitude.”
The public fallout prompted a swift response from President Trump, who has reportedly threatened to revoke federal subsidies and contracts involving Musk’s companies.
Speaking during an Oval Office meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump addressed the rift directly, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. I’m very disappointed in Elon. I’ve helped Elon a lot.”
