Bangladesh will hold the funeral of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi on Saturday under tight security, following unrest triggered by his death.
According to the press wing of the country’s interim government, the funeral prayers will take place at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building at 2 pm.
The Bangladesh government has also imposed a ban on the operation of drones in and around the Sangsad Bhaban during the janaza (funeral prayer).
Those wishing to attend the funeral have been advised not to carry bags or heavy objects, it added.
In a social media post on Friday, Inqilab Mancha said that, in accordance with the family’s wishes, Hadi would be laid to rest beside the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and his funeral prayers would be held after Zuhr on Saturday at Manik Mia Avenue.
The party also announced that there would be no public viewing of the body and urged people to pray for Hadi while maintaining order.
Bangladesh was gripped by tension on Friday as violent protests erupted across the country following the death of the student leader.
Hadi, a prominent leader of the July Uprising that toppled the Sheikh Hasina government and spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, was shot in the head by masked assailants last Friday (December 12) while launching his election campaign in Dhaka.
