In a hurried decision, Bangladesh National Security Adviser (NSA) Khalilur Rahman tonight left for the United States on a ten-day visit, ostensibly to meet “senior US officials”, documents accessed by Northeast News show.
An order issued by the Bangladesh Chief Advisor’s Office on June 15 reveals that Khalilur Rahman will “undertake an official visit to the USA from June 16 to 26, 2025 or the actual date of availing leave (excluding time travel) for attending meetings with senior US officials”.
This by itself is curious as the order mentions both “leave” and “official visit”. Additionally, the notice says that “all expenses of the tour will be borne by the Chief Adviser’s Office, Dhaka”.
Other related documents show that Khalilur Rahman took Emirates flight (No. EK-587) first to Dubai from where he will continue onward to the US.
The Bangladesh NSA, who is also expected to visit China this month, had not taken any leave for Eid-al-Adha. He accompanied Chief Adviser Yunus to London between June 9 and 13 when he played a leading role in interacting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
