New Delhi: In response to a violent attack on students and civilians in Gazipur on Friday night, the Bangladesh government has launched a nationwide security operation, dubbed “Operation Devil Hunt.”

The operation aims to restore law and order following the unrest and bring those responsible to justice.

The decision to launch the operation came after a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs, where law enforcement officials discussed strategies to maintain public safety and address the growing tensions.

The coordinated operation will begin in Gazipur and extend across the country, targeting individuals and groups involved in creating unrest.

Further details of “Operation Devil Hunt” are expected to be revealed in a press briefing scheduled for February 9.

A superintendent of police from the Chattogram division, speaking anonymously, confirmed that law enforcement has already compiled a list of Awami League leaders and activists suspected of involvement in the violence.

“We will apprehend anyone attempting to incite further sabotage,” the official said.

The attack in Gazipur, which reportedly involved militants with ties to the previous Awami League government, left several individuals critically injured.

The government has vowed to take strict measures to prevent further violence and ensure stability.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which has been vocal in its opposition to the government, have issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the arrest of those responsible for the attack.

The movement staged a protest rally in Gazipur on Saturday, calling for justice and the prosecution of those involved.

During the rally, protesters also called for the cancellation of the Awami League’s political party registration, the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her associates, and action against members of the Awami League allegedly operating within the advisory council and government administration.

Additionally, they demanded the confiscation of property belonging to Awami League leaders and other corrupt officials.

The government’s security operation is seen as a decisive step in addressing the escalating political unrest and ensuring the safety of civilians across the nation.
