Dhaka: A fire broke out at a CNG refuelling station in the Aushkandi area of Nabiganj upazila in Bangladesh’s Habiganj on Thursday (August 21). The blaze destroyed at least nine auto-rickshaws, a passenger bus, and two motorcycles.
As per reports, the blaze erupted around 6:00 am when a bus was being refuelled at Aushkandi CNG Filling Station located along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
A firefighting unit from Nabiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence was pressed into service. The fire was brought under control after more than two and a half hours.
Md Habibur Rahman, station officer of Nabiganj Fire Service, said, “The fire broke out during the refuelling of a bus when its cylinder exploded with a loud bang, quickly spreading flames in the area. Panic-stricken locals fled the scene, while firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.”

Nine CNG-run autos, one bus, and two motorcycles were gutted in the inferno.
While the total extent of the damage is still under investigation, the fire officer estimated the losses to be around 1.5 crore Taka. No casualties have been reported so far.
