Bangladesh Police have arrested 25 individuals after Awami League activists in Khulna carried out two flash processions on Sunday, reportedly under the instructions of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India.
The arrests were made on Sunday night, said Md Ahsan Habib, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
“From 12 pm to 9 pm on Sunday, the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) conducted operations across the city to arrest them. Drives are ongoing to arrest others involved,” Habib said.
He stated that the arrests were made after identifying participants through footage of the rallies.
Police arrested 25 activists from banned organisations, including Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League, for taking part in the flash processions.
The flash processions were staged by the AL party’s Khulna metropolitan and district units at the city’s Zero Point area around 7:30am, and at Daulatpur upazila around 3pm.
